Risk Mitigation
One of the largest concerns we hear about investing in the entertainment industry is the risk. We manage investor risk in several ways, including the types of projects we work with and the types of investments within those projects. While we offer opportunities that range in terms of risk/reward, Cygnet Media Capital generally focuses on Prints & Advertising (P&A) financing in feature films, which mitigates risk by generally being the last money in and the first money out.
What is P&A?
Prints are digital masters of the film shown in theaters, and advertising is, well, advertising. P&A financing is the last type of financing needed for films, and is generally not sought until after the film has completed production, has been audience-tested, and has been committed to distribution.
P&A financing is usually the most senior debt and the first money paid out after release. Therefore, the movie does not need to be overall profitable for investors to receive both principal and interest back from their investment. However, as P&A often also comes with an equity kicker, if the movie does become profitable, there is no ceiling on those potential profits.
